Are you looking for your families next favorite meal that’s easy to cook? You just found it. Chicken-bacon tater tot casserole tastes great, is easy to prepare, and inexpensive to make.
I absolutely adore this Chicken Bacon Tater Tot Casserole. My adoration is partly because of how easy it is to cook but also because, of all the meals I cook for my family, this is one of the few that everyone really likes. My kids like it, and it’s easy, that’s was I refer to as a win-win.
The only downfall to this recipe is that there aren’t any “real” veggies in it. No, I don’t consider tater tots a vegetable. So, I always add some kind of healthy side. Typically, I do a side salad or some other kind of green. The kids usually bypass the veggies, opting for the scrumptiousness of the casserole, but at least I gave it as an option. While this might not be the healthiest meal, the ease of making it added with the flavor make up for it in my opinion.

While most people don’t get so worked up over a simple chicken casserole (We’ve all seen about a million of them, haven’t we.), this one is good because it uses the crockpot instead of the oven, which is a great way to save electricity during the summer time.
Well, let’s get to making this casserole, shall we? It really is super simple to make. Start with a crockpot liner or, if you’re cost-conscious like me, an oven bag works just as well. I use oven bags in my smaller crockpot and crockpot liners in my larger oval one.
The key to this recipe is to layer the ingredients. Start with cut up chicken breast, place the cut-up bacon on top, then tater tots, and then the cheese. The pattern repeats until you’ve used all the ingredients. The only deviation comes on the last layer. I will pour the ranch/milk mixture over the top before adding the last of the tater tots and cheese. The milk breaks up the tater tots, and I like having the ones on top kept whole. It just gives a better presentation. After all, you eat with your eyes first.
Cook it on high for 4-5 hours and enjoy. The tater tots remind me of hash browns, and the flavor of the ranch mixed with them and the bacon and chicken is divine. It’s no wonder my kids love this casserole. Click here to download or print the recipe.
